The CDMA450 Workshop hosted by EVN Telecom and supported by the MPT was attended by approximately 200 participants from over 20 countries. The event organized by the International 450 Association (IA450) and the CDMA Development Group (CDG) once again proved to be an informative forum for regulators, operators and vendors to exchange information about recent deployments and ongoing trials.

Hanoi, Vietnam was chosen as the location for this event due to EVN Telecom’s recent commercial launch and success with CDMA450 technology and due to Vietnam’s rapidly growing mobile telecommunications industry.

The IA450 Plenary #5 immediately followed the workshop. Three new applicants were approved for membership raising the total membership to 32.

Some patients cannot tolerate the CPAP unit, others simply would prefer a less cumbersome alternative to the CPAP unit. Specially-educated dentists, working with a patient’s sleep physician, can treat sleep apnea (especially in mild to moderate cases) with a small, comfortable, custom-designed oral appliance that holds the lower jaw in a forward position splinting the structures in the back of the throat that tend to collapse during sleep.

This week the USPTO was far less busy, issuing nearly a 1,000 fewer patents than the 5,265 patents issued on January 31, 2012. While all the categories from last week experienced a drop in patent activity, the top one for both weeks, Physics – Computing; Calculating; Counting, saw the most significant decrease from 940 to 674 patents issued. There were only two new categories to the top 10 list this week, Physics – Optics and Electricity – Electric Techniques Not Otherwise Provided For.

Once again Kia Silverbrook is the top inventor this week. Although Silverbrook received more patents than last week, the other top inventors were issued less than those who made the previous week’s top 10 list. The top assignee, International Business Machines Corporation, also got far fewer patents this first week of February, a full 100 less to be exact. The Thugs Mug app automatically and instantaneously sends photos to the user’s safety contacts along with the GPS coordinates of where the event is occurring, and simultaneously dials 911. The app’s goal is to not only capture evidence, but to deter criminals.

London schoolchildren Get Set to perform in London 2012 Ceremonies

To mark 6 months to go to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) have announced that the under 16s Volunteer Performer Cast for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be selected from schools in the six Host Boroughs that are in the ‘Get Set network’, the official London 2012 education programme, and incorporating the Olympic and Paralympic Values into their curriculum.

Children chosen from Host Borough schools

18 primary and 7 secondary schools in the six Host Boroughs have been involved in an audition process for the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony involving children aged 7-9 years and 11-13 years. In total 1,650 children auditioned for the London 2012 Ceremonies Mass Movement Team, undertaking large scale choreography as well as dance routines. More than 900 children will be selected over the coming weeks to perform in the Opening Ceremony on July 27th 2012, watched by 80,000 people in the Olympic Stadium and a worldwide TV audience of over a billion people.

For the selected children there will be between 15 and 20 rehearsals taking place initially at the selected schools, then in East London at London 2012 Ceremonies rehearsal sites and finally in the Olympic Stadium. LOCOG is providing transport between the schools and the rehearsal venues for the young people.

The students involved will have an incredible experience which will build their confidence and a sense of pride in themselves, their friends, family, school and wider community.’

Selected schools from the six Host Boroughs will be auditioning in February for the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony. More details on selection of schools within the six Host Boroughs for the London 2012 Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be announced at a later date.

Applications are open until 22 February for adult volunteer performers to audition to participate in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. LOCOG are searching for 5,000 volunteer performers to fill roles as dancers, actors, percussionists and general all-round performers.
